6th Annual Hepcat Race!

By | December 2, 2016

Downtown Raleigh’s 6th annual alleycat race takes place Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Oak City Cycling Project. Hurray!!! We are proud to ride again for SAFE Haven Cat Shelter & Clinic, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping cats and kittens all across the Triangle.

So, you think you want to participate? AWESOME! You’re doing a good thing. We welcome riders of all skill levels and ages. Don’t worry: You’ll be rewarded for your efforts with the chance to win fabulous prizes. Registration is $10 (day-of registration is $15) and all proceeds will benefit SAFE Haven Cat Shelter & Clinic. Over the last 5 years, we’ve raised over $10,000 to provide low-cost spay and neuter services, a pet food pantry, and pet adoption throughout the Triangle.

When is it?

The ride will begin at 12:00 pm at Oak City Cycling Project on Sunday, August 28, 2016 and will conclude at 3:00 pm at the same location. Winners will be announced at 3:30 pm. Check-in begins at 11.

What is the route?

Inspired by a scavenger hunt, Hepcat’s route is kept secret until 12 p.m. on race day. All checkpoints are contained within downtown Raleigh. Take your cell phone and prepare for a scavenger hunt!

How do I register? What is the cost?

Online registration is $10, and can be completed online here. Day-of registration is $15.

We accept all major credit cards. Virtual riders may sleep in for cats! Virtual Rider registration is $10 and can be completed online.

What’s the money for?

Hepcat is a charity ride, with all proceeds going to benefit SAFE Haven Cat Shelter & Clinc. For twenty years, SAFE Haven—a nonprofit, no-kill shelter—has provided the Triangle with low-cost spay and neuter services, along with adoptions and public education. Through the race, Hepcat aims to raise enough money to sponsor the spay/neuter fees of 50 cats at SAFE Haven’s low-cost spay/neuter clinic. Learn more about SAFE Haven through our website, or visit them here.

What can I win?

Hepcat aims to connect cycling, music and animal enthusiasts together for a fun and challenging race, and our sponsors have generously donated prizes based on all three groups of interest. First, second and third prizes will include cycling-related gifts from Oak City Cycling, Chrome Industries, State Bicycle Co., Bagaboo, Outlier, Knog, Baileyworks, Hold Fast and fyxaxtion.

Music, including CDs and LPs, will come from Three Lobed Records, Dead Oceans, Merge, Profound Lore and Tompkins Square Records.

Raffle (tickets sold separately): For those unable to ride, we will also offer a drawing for top prizes, with all raffle ticket proceeds going directly to SAFE Haven.
